I wanted to write an article as short as possible but give you a quick idea on what each social media network is about and how you can use it for your business. Here is the result:
Twitter:
Imagine, you go to a party and there are millions of people in the party talking about hundreds of thousands of topics, and you want a special device to listen only to those conversations that matter to you and you can jump into those conversations, or start one with your audience. Twitter is the tool to do that in the party called internet.
Search for any topic in the search box to find the topic # , people who are talking about it @, and you can reply or retweet to join the conversation.
Linkedin:
A Social network for businessmen. Ideal for B2B businesses and also for recruitment. There are more than 200 Million professionals with average income of $ 83K .
For marketing, you can use presentation shares, or write ups about industry etc.
Facebook:
The biggest and best platform for content distribution.
1.15 Billion users. The best solution that exists so far for targeted marketing. You can segment on several aspects like age, gender, education, location, likes etc. If you are marketing to Millennials, this is a must use platform.
Creating a base of followers is the key. For marketing to the followers ensure that you use good quality graphics, provide link below a very short and interesting message. The image itself can be a link as in this example.
Instagram:
This is where most selfies end up. Think teenagers. Teenagers everywhere use slangs and instagram is full of them. some of them like #selfie have become popular. Others include #OOTD # SWAG
Pinterest:
If your target audience is women and moms, this is a go to platform for marketing. 80% of the 70 million plus users of Pinterest are women. Content that works are : e-commerce, DIY, Recipes, infographics about health etc. An important factor to remember is that posts are limited by width.
Youtube:
The numbers are mind blowing, there is no need to repeat here that youtube is watched x billion times etc. It works! a website with videos and one without is a characteristic that is weighed heavily within Google’s search engine algorithm.Videos are much more likely to “go viral” than text-only social media posts.
It’s an ideal platform for business for education based marketing, and the principle of giving value upfront to your potential customers.
Always create a channel and uploads videos to it so your audience can subscribe to the channel. In the description of your video, ALWAYS include a link to your website even if you only place it at the end of your text. Link your videos to Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or any other site that will increase exposure.
Quora:
Quora is like google except you get your answer from subject matter experts along with different views and explanations. Like facebook, instead of following people, you can follow topics of interest. It is a good platform to build your companies identity based defined by your knowledge and expertise.
Quora can be used for monitoring interest regarding your domain, build relationships with people who contribute to your forums, solicit feedback and opinion on products and services, build brand awareness and network building.
Vine:
6 Second looping videos. Ideal to target young population. In just 6 seconds, brands are creating entertaining and memorable moments for followers and clients, and highlighting their products in the process.
Snapchat :
A self destructing photo app that forces the user to pay attention. The key here is to have a call to action on other social media. 28% of the 550 Million photos uploaded everyday goes to SnapChat
Using snapchat can be done only if you think the content should exist only once. Key factor : Get someone’s attention, get them to act on it.
Blogging:
A frequently updated online personal journal or diary. It is a place to express your thoughts and passions. Companies use this for inbound marketing and to get the message as to what they are doing currently, how-to posts, tutorials, etc.
Blogging can take different styles and types dependant on the brand. Although some brands use Tumblr, Tumblr is mostly seen as a personal space, and the same goes with Medium. A large proportion of brands prefer using a CMS solution such as WordPress
