Will we be going through another economic depression soon?

Early humans laid down on their back and looked up at the starry night and thought these are tiny holes on our dome through which we could see the heavens.

Those who kept on looking soon realized that there is a pattern to the randomness.

As you might have already guessed, the picture above is Van Gogh’s La nuit étoilée (The Starry Night)

The artist wrote of his experience to his brother Theo: “This morning I saw the country from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big.”

Venus is the brightest object in our sky after the Sun and Moon. On a moonless night, Venus can be bright enough to cast faint shadows on Earth.

In June, Venus raises 1.5 hours before the Sun.

The painting was done in June 1889.

The position of Venus also confirms this.

So not only there are patterns, there are predictable cycles.

What does it have to do with will we have another depression or not?

In 1929, three conditions existed that started the Great Depression.

  • Near-zero interest rates
  • Central banks printing money
  • A new power was challenging the existing one.

  • What is common from then and now? Can you see a pattern? Is it better to anticipate, prepare, and hope for a better outcome, or deny that there is any pattern at all?

My thoughts for this post are influenced by the works of Ray Dalio and NGT.
